In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s Canada witnessed the rise of a new generation of talented jazz musicians and composers, and a proliferation of exciting new groups. While many of these groups were playing high caliber, original music, performance opportunities were rare, and recording contracts rarer still.

A number of small, artist-run companies arose to fill this need. Cornerstone Records Inc., formed in 1993, has been one of the most consistently successful of these artists-owned and operated labels.

From its initial recordings featuring Time Warp, the Barry Elmes Quintet, the Al Henderson Quartet, and Mike Murley, it has expanded its award-winning stable of artists to include other great artists such as Sonny Greenwich, Andre White, Richard Whiteman, D.E.W. East and Nick Brignola, Tom & Don Vickery, and 2002 Juno Award winners Murley, Bickert & Wallace.
